10 Windows 7 Known Issues and Problems
Windows 7 is a popular operating system. This is the most recent version of Windows. You will need to overcome a few different problems though. There are several problems which can affect anyone who is using windows 7. This article will look at 10 of the most common issues and problems which can cause trouble for anyone with a new computer.
1. Infrared Receiver
Many people will use an infrared receiver with a home entertainment PC or HTPC. These infrared receivers are supposed to make it easy to control your computer from the other side of the room. The problem with Windows 7 and infrared receivers is that they can prevent the computer from resuming after sleeping. If you experience this problem then try unplugging the infrared receiver. Otherwise you can try updating the drivers.
2. Public Folders
Many people will also experience problems with public folders. If you use the control panel to change the sharing options then the settings rarely take any effect. To solve this you should instead navigate to the folder you want to share and then right click on it. Then it’s simply a matter of clicking “Share With”. This makes it easy to set the correct permissions.
3. Trouble Scanning
TWAIN was the interface that was once used for scanners on the windows operating system. However this interface is no longer supported in Windows 7. If you receive any error messages when using a scanner then this is probably the reason. You will need to install a WIA (Windows Image Acquisition) driver instead. If this is not available then you might need to upgrade your scanner.
4. Playing back Protected Video
If you want to play back content which is protected then you will receive error messages unless your graphics card supports AES encryption. It’s impossible to find another solution for this without upgrading your graphics card.
5. Windows Search Indexing
This issue only affects computers using Windows 7 64 bit. This will not index newsgroup and emails from Windows live Mail. This means that you cannot search for them from the start menu. You can manually activate this search feature if required.
6. Office 2000
If you read the specifications on any software it will tell you what it requires. However you can’t simply assume that this is correct. Just because Office 2000 requires Windows 2000 or newer it won’t work properly on Windows 7. Outlook in particular has problems and is not supported properly. The only solution is to upgrade your version of office, or alternatively downgrade your version of Windows.
7. Trouble Syncing iPhone
One other known problem is that windows won’t sync properly with the iPhone or iPod. To solve this check the firewall and try plugging into a dedicated USB hub. If this still doesn’t work then you should check for an updated version of iTunes.
8. Slow Performance
Many windows 7 computers have fairly slow performance. However, there’s no need why you need to settle for this. It’s possible to fix this by using a registry cleaner.
9. Internet Problems
Windows 7 includes the new Internet Explorer 8 which can cause problems. This can affect the way that sites are displayed. Use the compatibility view button to make it possible to see these.
10. Blue Screen of Death
Windows 7 experiences several blue screen of death problems. These can be fixed by resetting the computer or sometimes using a registry cleaner. Other times the problems are a result of serious hardware errors which need to be replaced.
